The Hyundai KONA Electric is the first fully-electric compact SUV crossover to be offered for sale in Europe – combining the benefits of SUV ownership with the performance and environmental advantages of an all-electric powertrain. Plus, an expected range of up to 279 miles on a single charge*.
Our KONA Electric demonstration vehicle is expected to arrive at our Peterborough dealership in early 2019. If you want to be kept up-to-date with the latest news about the KONA Electric, click the link below.
The Hyundai KONA Electric allows drivers to electrify their motoring without compromise. Two different powertrains will be on offer; the long-range version is fitted with a 64kWh battery offering a range of up to 279 miles on a single charge*, which is mated to a 150kW motor, meaning a 0-62mph time of just 7.6 seconds! The standard version features a smaller, 39.2kWh battery and a 99kW motor meaning this version of the KONA Electric can travel a distance of 180 miles between charges*.
Thanks to it’s electric motor, 395Nm of torque available from a standstill, and single-speed gearbox, the KONA Electric offers smooth and near-silent motoring, meaning there are few more pleasurable and relaxing ways to travel.
The KONA Electric uses a shift-by-wire system to allow the driver to select ‘Drive’, ‘Reverse’, ‘Neutral’ or ‘Park’ at the press of a button. Not only does this make driving the KONA simple, it also frees up space for additional storage in the front of the car.
Charging couldn’t be simpler thanks to the charging point located at the front of the car, next to the Hyundai logo. Using a 100kW direct current (DC) fast charger, the battery can be topped up to 80% capacity in just 54 minutes. Drivers can also recharge using alternating current (AC) chargers where charging times range from 6 hours 10 minutes to 9 hours 40 minutes depending on the battery capacity. It is also possible to recharge using a household wall socket by using the ICCB-cable (in-cable control box).
Inside you will find the same high-quality, stylish interior as fitted to the internal combustion engined KONA, but with one unique difference. The prominent centre console, which houses the controls for transmission as well the electronic handbrake, cocoons the driver and provides a highly-useful storage area underneath. Owners can choose between part-leather or full-leather seating options in either black or three-tone blue and grey.
A seven-inch display replaces the standard instrument cluster and displays information such as speed, battery charge level, energy flow and driving mode. The colour of the display and the information shown changes depending on the driving mode selected.
The KONA Electric is fitted with a Head Up Display (HUD) which projects important driving information directly into the driver’s line of sight such as; speed, navigation commands, and safety related warnings, allowing the driver to remain focussed on the road ahead. When not in use, the HUD folds into the dashboard.
The front seats of the KONA Electric offer 8-way electric adjustment, allowing everyone to find a comfortable position. The seats also offer three-levels of heating and ventilation to suit different weather conditions and there is an optional heated steering wheel.
It’s not only the powertrain that’s high-tech, the KONA Electric also offers the very latest in-car connectivity and navigation features. The seven-inch touchscreen system has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing seamless integration between the car and your mobile device and enabling many of the device’s functions to be controlled via the car’s touchscreen. The screen also displays the image from the car’s rear-view camera when reversing.
The eight-inch touchscreen option offers the same functionality as the smaller version, plus satellite navigation with a free seven-year subscription to LIVE services offering real-time traffic, weather and speed camera information, as well as online point-of-interest search. The satellite navigation system comes with Hyundai’s unique Lifetime Mapcare service, which promises free annual map and software updates for at least 10 years after production of the model has ended.
To make sure your mobile device never runs low on power, the KONA Electric has a built-in Qi wireless charging pad to recharge your phone without cables (subject to device compatibility). What’s more, to make sure you don’t leave your phone in the car, a reminder is shown on the car’s display when you switch off the engine.
Your favourite driving soundtrack will never have sounded better thanks to the KONA Electric’s high-end Krell sound system. Featuring eight speakers, including a 200mm subwoofer, with 45W per channel, the system offers a crystal-clear sound, even at higher volumes.
The KONA Electric is packed with safety equipment, all part of Hyundai’s SmartSense active safety and driving assistance technologies, allowing the car to comply with the highest European Safety Standards. Features included: Smart Adaptive Speed Control with Stop & Go function, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning System with Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Driver Attention Warning and Speed Limit Information Function.
The KONA Electric is built using high-strength steel, creating a rigid construction which is combined with impact energy absorption zones to protect passengers in the event of an accident. The car is fitted with a total of 6 airbags to protect those travelling in the car.
