Nissan X-Trail Mountain Rescue: Introducing e-4ORCE to the Ski Slopes

This winter, Nissan is leveraging the exceptional all-wheel drive capabilities of its innovative e-4ORCE technology on European ski slopes by introducing an extensively modified X-Trail e-4ORCE, specifically tailored to meet the demanding requirements of mountain rescue operations.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue has undergone modifications that include swapping the wheels for snow tracks, providing reliable traction on icy slopes. Additionally, the rear seats have been eliminated to make room for a stretcher, enabling the transportation of injured skiers to the nearest medical facility, along with a seat for a medical professional.

Externally, the X-Trail now features a custom-made roof rack designed to carry an evacuation stretcher and snow shovels. Additionally, a siren, flashing light bar, and powerful rooftop lights have been installed, along with lights on the hood. Wider fenders have been seamlessly integrated at the front and rear to accommodate the tracks, while the front bumper has been reinforced to support a winch. Reinforced towing hooks are now present on both the front and rear bumpers, and footboards have been incorporated on the sides to aid access, as the X-Trail sits 23 centimetres higher on its tracks compared to the standard road-going version.

The creation and assembly of the X-Trail Mountain Rescue was initiated to showcase the sophisticated electrified twin-motor e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system integrated into the X-Trail. What distinguishes this system from traditional mechanical systems is its ability to respond to fluctuating levels of grip in 1/10,000th of a second, approximately 1000 times faster than a conventional all-wheel drive system. Moreover, it can adapt the distribution of power to each wheel individually based on the available grip.

The occupants will remain pleasantly unaware of the e-4ORCE system's seamless operation, diligently ensuring traction in various conditions. This offers peace of mind as they journey through wet urban streets, leafy suburban areas, muddy countryside, or snowy mountain roads.

The X-Trail Mountain Rescue is participating in a campaign across five European ski resorts under the "Ride Responsibly" initiative. Nissan aims to promote courteous behaviour on the slopes by installing digital signs encouraging snow riders to reduce speed where different slopes converge in order to minimise the risk of collisions. Similar to roadside speed signs, these displays will monitor approaching riders' speeds, displaying a "Thank You" message for those riding at considerate speeds and a "Slow Down" prompt for those deemed excessive. The X-Trail Mountain Rescue will be showcased in a glass enclosure at the popular Italian ski resort of Cervinia.

The X-Trail is a family-focused electrified crossover with seating for up to seven passengers. It delivers a smooth EV driving experience courtesy of e-POWER technology combined with a twin-motor e-4ORCE all-wheel drive system. Available in both five- and seven-seater configurations, it provides a convenient choice for outings with extended family or friends.
