EV’s are expensive!

Wrong! It is true that some EVs are more expensive than their ICE equivalent, although the price difference is narrowing down, with many EV’s being offered now at the same or lower prices than petrol and diesel cars. 

There is nowhere to charge!

Wrong! Despite concerns about charging availability, the infrastructure for electric vehicles is rapidly expanding. Countries like the UK now have over 40,000 public charging points, with numbers growing annually. Most EV owners charge at home overnight, and many workplaces, shopping centres, and public spaces offer charging facilities. Rapid chargers along motorways make long-distance travel feasible. Additionally, apps and navigation systems help locate nearby charging stations, making EV ownership more practical and convenient than ever.


The range is too short, and they take too long to charge!

Wrong!​ According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the average EV vehicle range is 236 miles on a single charge. A Project Solar UK survey found that 75% of people commute less than 10 miles to work, with 20% travelling between 5 and 10 miles. Some longer journeys you take may require a charge stop, although typically on a journey over 200 miles you would need to stop to rest, and whilst you do this you can plug your EV in to a rapid charger, with most being capable of charging from 0-80% in under an hour.

They are worse for the environment!

Wrong!​ The initial emissions of producing an electric vehicle are generally higher than a petrol or diesel counterpart, but over the lifetime of the car, it will cross over and end up emitting between one-half to two-thirds less over its lifetime. EV manufacturers are now aiming to produce vehicles in a carbon neutral environment and a less resource intensive way. 

The batteries don’t last!

Wrong!​ Batteries do degrade over time, but so do components on an ICE vehicle. Most manufacturers offer extensive battery warranties, with most outperforming warranties offered on ICE vehicles, such as 8-year, or 100,000-mile warranties. Industry experts now accept that the batteries in EVs will generally outlast the chassis in which they are built on.

They catch fire often!

Wrong! In the UK, approximately 100,000 car fires occur annually, with electric vehicle fires constituting only a small portion. A report identified 23 passenger EV fires caused by faulty batteries between January 1 and March 31, 2023.

The grid won’t be able to cope!

Wrong! The switch to EV is gradual and will not happen overnight, and the National Grid are aware of this. There are clear plans to meet the projected demand, such as offshore wind farms, with more and more renewable energy sources being set up each day.
