Summer Car Care: Important Tips To Keep Your Car In Top Condition

With summer around the corner, its important to make sure that your car has fully recovered from the depths of winter, and is ready for hot weather. Our 'Tips for Driving this Winter' article explained the difficulties with running your car in cold conditions and how to be best prepared, but it is just as important to prepare for the summer heat. This article will provide some key tips to keep your car in top condition.

Air-Con Service

Your air conditioning probably hasn't been used much recently, but there will come a time soon when you'll decide to use it again. If you haven't used your air-con in a while, it might be time to get it re-gassed. This is recommended to be done every 2 years, as your car can loose between 10 and 15 percent of gas each year, even without using it. Why not book an Air-Con service with us to make sure it will be in working order for the coming months.

Tyres

In the summer, your tyres will have much more grip compared to wet or icy roads, but there are still some essential checks that you should carry out. Hotter temperatures will increase air pressure in your tyres which may cause them to be overinflated, so make sure to check them using a reliable pressure gauge. Also make sure that your tread hasn't worn too much during winter driving. Tyres should have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm, which will provide good grip and safety.

Time For A Clean

If you haven't already, now is a good time to thoroughly clean your car, both inside and out. During the winter, dirt and grit can build up which could end up scratching your paintwork if you are not careful. When washing your cloths and towels, never use bleach or fabric softener, as this can damage your paintwork. Make sure to stay out of the harsh sunlight whilst washing you car as it can cause unwanted streaks and swirls to appear.
