Vauxhall Expands Hybrid Range with the Introduction of the New Mokka Hybrid

Vauxhall has opened orders for the Mokka Hybrid, its latest model featuring 48-volt hybrid technology for improved efficiency and lower emissions compared to petrol models. The Mokka Hybrid completes Vauxhall’s hybrid lineup, joining the Corsa, Astra, Astra Sport Tourer, and Grandland, with the upcoming Frontera Hybrid and All-New Grandland Hybrid soon to follow.

The Mokka Hybrid is powered by a 48V system paired with a 0.89kWh lithium-ion battery mounted under the front passenger seat, ensuring no reduction in boot space and optimised handling. This battery works with a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine designed for hybrid use, producing 136hp at 5,500rpm and 230Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. The engine is mated to an electrified six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (e-DCT6) with a built-in electric motor delivering 21kW (28hp) and 55Nm of torque.

The 48V hybrid technology in the Mokka is efficient, user-friendly, and fun to drive. It offers an 18g/km reduction in CO2 emissions and improved fuel efficiency of 57.6mpg, compared to 46.3mpg in the non-hybrid Mokka 1.2 (130hp). The hybrid system optimises energy consumption and performance, particularly in city driving, where the electric motor can power the car for short distances and assist the petrol engine under acceleration. The Mokka Hybrid accelerates from 0-62mph in 9.1 seconds, slightly quicker than its petrol counterpart.

The hybrid system also features regenerative braking, which recharges the 48V battery during deceleration. The petrol engine, optimised for efficiency with the Miller combustion cycle and a variable geometry turbocharger, is assisted by a belt-driven starter for quick, seamless starts. Drivers can select from three driving modes: Eco for efficiency, Normal, and Sport, where the petrol engine runs continuously for maximum performance.

The Mokka Hybrid offers a range of powertrain options, including two fully electric versions and two petrol engines. It is available in three trims: GS, Ultimate, and the special edition Griffin. The Griffin trim, exclusive to the Mokka range, includes 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, a black roof, a seven-inch touchscreen, heated seats and steering wheel, LED headlights, and an array of driver-assistance features.

The GS model adds sporty elements such as red window moldings, 18-inch bi-color alloy wheels, and a black Griffin logo, alongside enhanced features like Vauxhall’s 10-inch Multimedia Pure Panel Navigation system, electronic climate control, and rain-sensitive wipers. The top-tier Ultimate model includes IntelliLux adaptive LED Matrix headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane positioning assistant, side blind spot alert, and front and rear parking sensors, along with luxury touches like keyless entry, Alcantara seat trim, and a driver’s seat massage function.
