Smiths Charity Bake Sale

Help spread some Christmas cheer and treat yourself to something sweet at our Charity Bake Sale on Friday 20th December 2019. Our teams will have been hard at work in the kitchen (or pushing a shopping trolley for those less able bakers!) to raise money for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice and Derbyshire Blood Bikes, so why not pop in and see us? We'll even treat you to a tea, coffee or hot chocolate on us!

Who are Sue Ryder and what do they do?

The focus at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough is on quality of life - giving every patient the palliative care and support they need so they can spend their time as they choose. They care for people aged 16 and over who are living with conditions like cancer, heart failure and lung disease. That care is delivered in the community and at a 20-bed hospice. Their team of specialist staff work together so they can be sure patients receive all the care and support they need – physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. They look after families and close friends as well, for as long as required. Thorpe Hall also runs day services open to people living with long-term conditions. They join in activities and outings, helping to boost confidence and giving them the opportunity to meet and socialise with others. The team also supports Synergy Cafés for those living with dementia and their carers, which are held weekly at Thorpe Hall and at the Sue Ryder Café in Stanground, Peterborough.

Who are Derbyshire Blood Bikes and what do they do?

Derbyshire Blood Bikes is a non profit registered charity that provides a service to our NHS transporting lifesaving medical items for hospitals in the region; they carry blood, urgent samples & medications. They also transport donated breast milk into the national milk bank supply chain, this is used to support feeding of premature or seriously ill babies. Indeed, if they can carry it safely ..... they will transport it.
