Tom Daley may be known for making waves in the pool, but last week he turned heads on the streets of London as he swapped Olympic medals for something a little more pop – the all-new Renault 5 E-Tech electric in dazzling “pop yellow.” The five-time Olympic medalist and LGBTQ+ advocate joined a star-studded guest list at the launch of the eagerly anticipated Renault 5, now reborn as a stylish, fully electric city car that blends retro charm with cutting-edge tech.

Daley, a proud future owner, was all smiles as he explored the retro-styled EV, praising its standout design, high-tech interior, and quirky French touches – especially the much-talked-about baguette holder. “You can’t help but make a splash in this car,” he said. “It’s such fun – and that baguette holder? Genius!”

Guests were treated to a French-inspired culinary experience curated by MasterChef: The Professionals finalist Matt Ryle. Known for his modern takes on French classics, Ryle designed five Renault 5-themed canapés in tribute to the car’s heritage and playful spirit – even referencing its rally-winning past with a Monte Carlo-inspired bite.

Ryle, who is also set to become an R5 driver, praised the car’s balance of charm and innovation: “It’s stylish, smart, and full of personality. From the yellow paint to the little French details – it’s just brilliant.”

Radio hosts Greg James and Jonny Smith, both early adopters of the Renault 5 and longtime car enthusiasts, brought even more energy to the evening. The pair arrived in matching yellow R5s with two-tone black roofs – a playful nod to their automotive bromance. “Just looking at the Renault 5 makes me happy,” said James, who’s had a love for Renaults since childhood. “It’s refreshing to see a car that isn’t afraid to be fun.”

Smith, an automotive journalist and presenter, added, “We drove it through rural France, and honestly, it got more attention than most supercars. Renault has done something really clever – they’ve captured the spirit of the original and made it relevant for today.”

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric brings back the beloved hatchback in a fully electric package. With up to 252 miles of range, rapid charging capabilities (80% in 30 minutes), built-in Google services, and an AI driving assistant named Reno, it’s designed to be as smart and intuitive as it is stylish.
