The Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER has been celebrated by The Sun, The Sunday Times, and driving.co.uk at the News UK Motor Awards 2024, earning the title of best-in-class for its innovative electrified powertrain.
This accolade is a significant achievement for Nissan and the British-built Qashqai, which has had a standout year. The popular crossover has seen a comprehensive update and played a central role in an award-winning marketing campaign. Since its launch in September 2022, over 140,000 Qashqai e-POWER units have been sold, with customers praising the ‘electric drive’ experience provided by the technology.
Rob Gill, The Sun’s Motors Editor, expressed high praise:
“We can’t get enough of them. Qashqai is the car that started it all, and now the clever e-POWER system moves the game on even further. It has all the advantages of an electric car without the drawbacks like recharging with a plug. The petrol engine charges the battery, and the electric motor drives the wheels. We averaged 46mpg over 700 miles, which is mighty impressive for a family SUV, plus it’s designed, engineered, and made in Britain.”
The e-POWER powertrain is unique in that the wheels are driven solely by an electric motor, unlike traditional hybrids. This design delivers the sensation of driving an EV without the need to plug in and charge, making it an ideal choice for those seeking advanced technology without committing to a fully electric vehicle. The car’s turbocharged three-cylinder engine generates electricity, which is directed to either the 140kW electric motor or the 1.8kWh battery, depending on the driving scenario. This system ensures a seamless driving experience with no disconnect between sound and vehicle movement.
Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, shared her excitement:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled that the new Qashqai, powered by Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, beats hybrid rivals in a highly competitive class at the News UK Motor Awards 2024. It means a huge amount to be selected for recognition by some of the UK’s most popular publications and their motoring experts. Nissan is proud to have created the crossover segment with the launch of Qashqai in 2007. The cars on sale today are a far cry from those early models, and the introduction of e-POWER technology in 2022 was a huge moment for Qashqai. It’s a car that’s incredibly important to all of us at Nissan and continues to be much-loved by our customers.”
In a recent marketing campaign, a replica of a Nissan Qashqai was attached to the chimney of the Truman Brewery in East London, garnering high praise from industry experts.
