Nissan is set to further electrify its European lineup with the launch of two exciting new electric vehicles (EVs) in 2025 – the all-new Nissan LEAF and the return of the iconic MICRA as a fully electric model. These models, along with a significant upgrade to Nissan's groundbreaking e-POWER hybrid technology, are part of the company’s ambitious electrification strategy aimed at reshaping the future of electric mobility across Europe.
The first major launch in 2025 will be the fully electric Nissan MICRA, designed by Nissan Design Europe in London. This new MICRA will continue to embody the compact, stylish, and practical design that has made the model a popular choice for urban drivers. Built on an advanced small-platform architecture, the new MICRA will offer two battery options – 40kWh and 52kWh – providing a driving range of over 248 miles on a single charge. Production of the MICRA EV will take place at the Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France, with sales expected to begin by the end of the year.
The all-new MICRA EV promises a perfect balance of performance, range, and innovation, making it an ideal choice for drivers seeking a city-friendly, eco-conscious vehicle.
Following the launch of the MICRA, the third generation of Nissan’s pioneering LEAF electric vehicle will hit the market in 2025. The original Nissan LEAF was a game-changer when it was first introduced in 2010, pioneering the shift to mass-market electric vehicles (EVs). The third-generation LEAF, developed on Nissan’s advanced CMF-EV platform, shares its architecture with the Nissan ARIYA. It will feature an aerodynamic design, enhancing both style and efficiency.
Manufactured at Nissan’s state-of-the-art Sunderland plant in the UK, the new LEAF is part of Nissan’s ambitious EV36Zero project. This initiative aims to transform the Sunderland plant into a leading EV hub, combining vehicle production, renewable energy, and battery manufacturing in one location.
Nissan’s innovative e-POWER technology, which redefines the hybrid driving experience, will also receive an important update in 2025. Since its introduction in 2022, e-POWER has been praised for delivering the efficiency and driving enjoyment of an EV without requiring external charging. The upcoming upgrades will make the system even more efficient, refined, and closer to a full EV driving experience, offering improved emissions, performance, and driving comfort. The enhanced e-POWER system will debut in the Nissan Qashqai, which will continue to be a top choice for those seeking an eco-friendly yet powerful driving experience.
Looking ahead, Nissan is also preparing the third-generation JUKE compact crossover, which will be launched as a fully electric vehicle (EV) in FY2026. Inspired by the bold Hyper Punk concept car, which was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in 2023, the new JUKE EV will combine cutting-edge technology, performance, and design, further enhancing Nissan's EV offerings.
The launch of the new MICRA and LEAF EVs, alongside upgrades to e-POWER technology, highlights Nissan’s commitment to electrifying its European vehicle lineup. As Leon Dorssers, Regional Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle-East, India, Europe & Oceania), explained:
“The renewal of Nissan’s European line-up is the realisation of our bold plan to electrify our range in Europe. All the new models will share common Nissan DNA: striking design, technical innovation, and intuitive technology – a combination of qualities which we are confident will attract new buyers to Nissan, as well as continuing to appeal to existing customers who already love how Nissan vehicles enrich their daily lives.”
David Moss, Senior Vice President of Region Research & Development, AMIEO, added:
“With the return of the Micra as an EV and the third-generation LEAF, we’ve made significant advancements in one of our most popular technologies. The upcoming updates to e-POWER will make it even more efficient, refined, and closer overall to a pure EV-driving experience. It remains the powertrain of choice for buyers who love the feel of driving electric but don’t want to worry about charging.”
