It’s as easy as one, two, three; Top three questions to ask when buying a car

Buying a car can be extremely daunting and with emotions running high and confusion looming, things can be easily missed!

Here at Smiths Motor Group we care about ensuring you walk away with a car that meets your needs perfectly and from entering the building, to driving away, we want to make sure it’s a stress-free experience. To help, our team have come up with a list of the top 3 questions to ask when buying a new car.

Whether you have never brought a car before and this is the first time walking into a dealership or perhaps you have brought many car, it’s worth asking these questions each time to ensure you get the right car for you and your specific needs.

Have no fear, Smiths Motor Group is here.

1.What accessories are available?

This is a question often slips peoples’ minds – The focus is often on which colour to choose, or whether the car has satellite navigation, but all dealerships offer a range of accessories designed specifically for the car you choose that could make your life so much easier. You will never know if you don’t ask. For example, a boot tidy is perfect for those people out there who keep their life in their car (guilty as charged!). Or are you a dog lover? Did you know we can offer you a dog guard which will keep your furry friends safe and sound? Tell your sales executive what you use your car for and they will be able to advise if there are any accessories available that are perfect for your lifestyle.

2.What fuel type is best for me?

The choice of which fuel to choose used to be quite simple, but with the added choice of fully electric cars or hybrids that use both petrol and electric power the choice has become more complicated. Don’t assume that just because your last car was a diesel, for example, that your next car should be too, or that because your Mum tells you to buy a petrol because she’s read online that diesel is bad for the environment now that you should.

What is important is that you should tailor your car to meet the specific driving that you do. By making the right fuel choice you will save money, lower the risk of mechanical problems and have a much more enjoyable driving experience. Our sales teams are specially trained to offer you expert advice to help you choose the fuel option that fits your needs.

3.What are the running cost?

So, you’ve chosen your dream car here at Smiths Motor Group and you’ve worked out you can afford the monthly payments. Now you need to decide if you can afford to run it.

The running costs are something that can be easily be forgotten with the excitement of getting a new car. Things to consider when thinking about discussing running cost are:

  • How much will the car cost to service? Your sales person will be able to give you an estimate for how much each service will cost. Don’t forget to ask about service plans, these can help you spread the cost of your car’s servicing into more manageable monthly payments.
  • How many miles to gallon? While the Government provided fuel consumption figures can only be used as a guide, it can be used to compare different cars to see which is more efficient and will therefore cost you less to run.
  • How much is the road tax? You will need to pay this every year, so it can add up over time so it’s important to include it when calculating how much your new car is going to cost you to run.

The most important thing to remember is that our sales teams are here to guide you through the process of buying a car, not talk you into buying a car you don’t want. They want to make sure you choose the right car, so tell them as much as you can about how you use your car so they can recommend the perfect car for you.
