The Hyundai Kona will be the third, and smallest, member of Hyundai’s SUV family and is coming to Smiths Hyundai, Peterborough later in 2017. Slotting in below the Hyundai Tucson, the Kona will compete directly with the Nissan Juke and Renault Captur. The name Kona continues Hyundai Motor’s SUV naming strategy and is derived from the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii. The island’s energetic image and unique lifestyle matches the All-New Hyundai Kona’s dynamic character.
Being noticed is never a problem with the Hyundai Kona, with striking body colour choices and contrasting body cladding creating a unique, yet rugged appearance.
At the front, you will find twin-level headlights with the LED daytime running lights sitting above the LED headlights creating a bold look. There is no doubting the Kona is an SUV when viewed from the front, with the rugged body cladding wrapping around the front bumper creating a stylish look that also helps to protect the paintwork from bumps and scrapes. Despite its unique styling features, the Kona still looks a part of the Hyundai family, with the now familiar ‘Cascading Grille’ taking pride of place between the headlights, while chrome accents help to create a premium feel.
At the rear, the bold SUV design theme continues. The rear bumper features the same wraparound contrasting cladding as the front of the car and the includes the rear indicators and reversing lights. The rear bumper includes a skid plate design to further enhance the car’s adventurous credentials. The Kona’s slim LED rear lights include distinctive graphical elements that help the car stand out at night.
The Kona offers two colour options for the two-tone (black or dark grey) and a choice of ten distinctive exterior colours so there’s a look to suit every style. Add to this many exterior and interior personalisation options and you can create a Kona that’s unique to you.
Take a seat in the Hyundai Kona and you will find smooth, contoured surfaces, mirroring the car’s exterior design, constructed from high quality materials. The interior trim can be tailored to suit your taste with a choice of three distinctive colours; orange, lime or red. The interior is completed by a dark roof lining that gives the Kona a sportier feel.
Practicality hasn’t been forgotten in the quest for style. There are numerous storage spaces throughout the cabin and the doors have space to accomodate a 1.5-litre water bottle. There’s plenty of room for both front and rear seat passengers with up to 1054mm and 880mm of legroom respectively. There’s plenty of space for cargo too, with a large boot which has up to 1,143 litres of capacity with the 60:40 split rear seats folded.
All the car’s controls fall easily to hand helping drivers stay focused on the road ahead. The climate control functions are conveniently located in the centre console, while the optional eight-inch touchscreen navigation screen provides controls for satellite navigation, media and connectivity features.
The Kona is offered with a wide range of features to improve driver and passenger convenience. The optional heated steering wheel keeps your hands warm in the coldest of weather and 8-way adjustable electric seats, available on selected models, mean drivers of all shapes and sizes can get comfortable.
From its launch, the Kona offers two turbo charged petrol engine, both of which offer excellent fuel efficiency without comprising power or driving enjoyment. The 1.0 litre T-GDI comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox and produces 120PS, while the more powerful 1.6 litre T-GDI produces 177PS and is fitted with a smooth-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Available shortly after launch will be the 1.6 CRDi diesel engine with a choice of two power outputs, 115PS or 136PS. The lower powered option comes equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox while the higher-powered version comes with the 7-speed speed dual-clutch automatic.
The Hyundai engineers have created a car that with a good balance between handling and comfort – the ride is smooth without compromising cornering ability. The ground clearance of 170mm provides a commanding view of the road ahead and allows the suspension to soak up the worst British roads can throw at it.
4-wheel-drive is available with the more powerful petrol and diesel engine options to add to the go-anywhere ability of the Kona. Up to 50% of the engine’s power can be transferred to the rear wheels in slippery conditions, providing added confidence in the worst driving conditions.
The Hyundai Kona is available with three different infotainment systems depending on the specification level. The standard audio system features a 5-inch screen and features radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The Display Audio system comes with a 7-inch colour touchscreen and offers both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration allowing drivers to access their smartphone’s functions, including navigation, through the car’s display screen. The top-of-the-range system has an 8-inch touchscreen and adds full satellite navigation with 7-years LIVE Service subscription and 10 years of annual map updates to the features of the Display Audio System.
Selected Kona models also
offer wireless charging for smartphones (subject handset compatibility) to ensure you never run low on power. Simply place your phone on the
charging pad and it will be reenergised – no wires required!
If you love your music then choose a Kona fitted with the premium Krell sound system. Featuring eight speakers including a subwoofer and an eight-channel amplifier delivering 45 Watts per channel, this system is an audiophile’s dream.
In a first for Hyundai,
selected Kona models come equipped with a head-up display. This system projects
relevant driving information, such as speed, satellite navigation directions
and fuel levels, directly into the line-of-sight of the driver. The head-up
display promotes safer driving as important information can be seen at a glance
without the driver having to take their eyes off the road.
Kona is available with the latest safety technology,
including; Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist System, Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic
