Understanding the Motability Scheme

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair by exchanging their Government funded mobility allowance . If you receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) you may be eligible to join the Motability Scheme.

What you get when you join the scheme

Motability provide the vehicle and the support you need so you can simply enjoy worry-free mobility. As part of the worry-free package, you can receive:

  • A brand new car every three years
  • Car insurance from RSA Motability
  • Breakdown assistance
  • Servicing, maintence and repairs
  • Adaptions, many at no extra cost

Choosing the right car

When choosing a new vehicle, there is a lot to consider, including cost, suitability and fuel consumption. Our Motability specialists will be able to provide you with all the information you need, will arrange a test drive, and can offer advice as to which car might be right for you if you require it.

Financial assistance

If you need a specific car because of your disability and you are unable to afford the Advance Payment required, or if you need essential adaptations or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) which can sometimes cost more, Motability may be able to provide financial help.

Financial help is only awarded towards the least expensive solution that meets your mobility needs and you should also expect to contribute as much as you can afford. Our Motability specialists can provide you with more information about this.
